It is amazing how much fun you can have in Tenerife. If you take stunning hotels, delicious food and glorious weather as a given, then what makes it great? It is the people. The people that you take with you. And if you take three hundred and fifty of the most motivated self starters in the IT industry away for four days expect to have fun.

Incentives have to work on many levels. They have to give in order to receive. As a part of an annual program designed to motivate and drive success, they have to demonstrate that the host deeply wants their people to succeed. Everyone who makes the trip has earned it - big time. The trip is not the cause of the success but it is the celebration of it. It becomes a point of pride. It is the opportunity to be seen by your peers as very successful as they are.

There are many different factors that contribute to the building of an effective incentive program but the single greatest one is your client. Their determination and clarity of vision will ensure success when all about you is in flux. Their intimate knowledge of their own culture, their own values and their own standards will enable you to design a program of activity that is on brand, in focus and worthy of the delegates.

They then have to trust you to build to that vision. Like everything in life, it is an iterative process and trust is hardly ever an absolute. Use your own talents to ensure that you approach the build in a spirit of co-operation and with humility. There is always something new to learn.

At the end of the day, the only thing that truly matters is the success of the event in the eyes of the delegates. That is winning.
